Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim
AMANI Birth is one of the first books to look at the childbearing year from an Islamic perspective. The book is a good choice for Muslim mothers and the care providers who serve them. At the end of the day, birth is birth, so even the non-Muslim mother will benefit from the lessons in this book.
The book is divided into five sections based on the AMANI acronym: Assisting, Mothers, Active, Natural, and Instinctive.
The book is divided into five sections based on the AMANI acronym: Assisting, Mothers, Active, Natural, and Instinctive.
- Assisting: addresses the people who support the expectant mother and has a significant focus on the father of the baby.
- Mothers: explores the anatomy of the pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Active: discusses pregnancy exercise, nutrition, birth positions, and more.
- Natural: reveals the natural functions of the mother's body, but also addresses possible complications that may arise as well.
- Instinctive: discusses how every mother and baby pair has all the instincts within them to give birth, even without support (although we would not want mothers to give birth without professional observation).
In fact, the AMANI Birth book agrees with the quote from the World Health Organization (WHO) says that:
"...normal birth, provided it is low-risk, only needs close observation by a trained and skilled birth attendant in order to detect early signs of complications. It needs no intervention but encouragement, support and a little tender loving care."
AMANI Birth's ultimate goal is that mother's are educated in order to make informed decisions. Knowledge is power and reduces fears. May each mother enjoy their pregnancy and birth journey and always have fond memories of this special time.
